Cupid & Psyche is a one of a kind artist book commissioned for the Just One Look exhibit at the University of Washington in 2016. I used Sarah Ruden’s translation of The Golden Ass by Apuleius (Yale University Press, 2011) as my primary source material for the myth as well as the quotes from Venus on the butterfly wings, which appear in the book.

Cupid & Psyche is inkjet printed on superfine cover paper from original ink & acrylic paintings.

The clay butterflies are handmade from metallic polymer clay and willow twigs.

Art, design and poetry by: Mari Eckstein Gower.

Fabrication by: Kat Gower.

The pages of the book were copied to create a 12 book edition version of the piece in in 2016.
